SIMIC is selected to manufacture the 18 TF COIL cases of the DTT project.

  • 5/25/2022

SIMIC, involved for more than 15 years in Fusion energy thanks to a consolidated collaboration with ITER project and F4E, recently signed with DTT a contract for the manufacturing of the 18 TF COIL cases for the DTT magnet containment system.

The DTT (Divertor Tokamak Test facility) is one of the main projects in the Controlled Thermonuclear Fusion activity of this decade and is being built in Frascati, Rome.

It’s a Consortium established between ENEA, CREATE, ENI, CNR, RFX, INFN and some Universities, with the scope to explore and qualify alternative power exhaust solutions in view of DEMO construction, in line with European Roadmap for the development of Fusion Energy Technology.

The project aims also to test the physics and technology of various alternative divertor concepts under plasma conditions that can be used for DEMO project.

The TF COIL cases will be made in Stainless Steel AISI 316 LN, tested at 4K, and will be manufactured in Marghera (Venice), at the SIMIC workshops.

More than 1.000 Tons of Stainless Steel will be needed to manufacture the parts with complex geometries and tight tolerances to be respected.

We are glad to contribute to the DTT project, manufacturing these complex components.

Our best working practices and know-how will be put in place for the success of the DTT project.
