The Annual Day of the Italian Nuclear Association dedicated to “The Italian Industry and the Opportunities of the New Nuclear” was held in Rome on December 3, and was attended by Marianna Ginola, Head of Nuclear & Fusion at SIMIC, a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Nuclear Association and the European Fusion Association.
President Stefano Monti opened the proceedings, followed by Minister Adolfo Urso‘s speech.
Marianna Ginola spoke on the panel “The Italian Nuclear Industry Abroad and Research Support,” moderated by Roberto Adinolfi and highlighted SIMIC’s relevant involvement in Fusion, through continuous collaboration for more than 20 years, especially in the ITER Organization project, but also more recently in the private fusion sector, for which SIMIC has produced many complex components, starting from prototyping, to industrialization and mass production of critical parts of the #tokamak machines that have enabled SIMIC to achieve levels of excellence in terms of quality, delivery time, technology, and innovation capability.
The importance of collaborations and synergies with other companies to succeed in complex contexts in foreign markets was emphasized. The ability to systematize at the European level is essential but not taken for granted, given also the very fragmented context that characterizes Europe. In this regard, mention was made of the European Fusion Association (EFA), which was formed in Brussels last September by 12 European companies, leaders in the fusion industry, with the aim of systemizing and representing the interests of the fusion industry at European level, supporting the push for fusion and raising awareness among institutions and stakeholders to ensure that Europe does not fall behind in such an important and strategic sector.
As for Italy, it is hoped that the Italian government will be able to speed up the authorization process for new nuclear power to align with European programs. Work will have to be done on communication and outreach to ensure that new generations are increasingly prepared to welcome the new sustainable nuclear power in Italy. In this regard, AIN’s role will continue to be fundamental as an interlocutor toward institutions and stakeholders.
