SIMIC participated in the European meeting regarding SMRs

June 1, 2024

SIMIC, as a member of the European industrial alliance on SMRs, participated last week in Brussels in the opening meeting, organized by the European Commissionnucleareurope and SNETP. The alliance is made up of several technical working groups to promote innovation, simplify regulatory processes and ensure the rapid implementation of SMRs across Europe.

Together with the Italian and European supply chain, we will vigorously support this important initiative.

The interest in the European alliance is enormous, as demonstrated by the impressive number of 277 participants. The vitality of the nuclear supply chain in Italy is evident, in fact with 50 Italian participants we are second only to France.

The joint work of the participants in this platform is to support the most important areas defined in the working groups: among them, the construction of a local supply chain based on European resources, R&D, financing, regulatory areas, safety and security, and fuel supply security.

As confirmed by the European Commission“SMRs can complement conventional nuclear technologies and contribute, alongside renewable energy, to European climate mitigation and sustainability efforts by cogenerating electricity and heat with low carbon emissions in a reliable, coherent and safe.”
